Homemade Guacamole

If I had to define Julia Hale Fitness by one food, it would be an avocado. Fresh, versatile, healthy but not boiled-chicken-and-broccoli healthy, easily-digestible and useful in every day life.

Boom.

Really though, guacamole is one of my favorite things to make – and don’t mind me while I brag, I’m asked to make it a lot. I guess I have just the right squeeze in my right hand for that fresh lime taste.

I’m obsessed with avocados. I eat them nearly everyday. As long as the price is right, avocado shows up in my breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and sometimes even dessert (don’t knock avocado key-lime pie until you’ve tried it). If you don’t already know, avocados have some particularly delightful benefits associated with them such as: boosting brain health, enhancing weight loss, improving eye sight, improving skin health, improving heart health and so on. Plus, they are delicious.

This recipe is super simple.

To keep it on the healthy side, forgo the basket of chips and slice up carrot sticks, cucumber rounds, red peppers and snow peas instead. Not only will you avoid the processed carbs and extra salt from a handful of tortilla chips, the fat in avocado can dramatically increase the amount of nutrients your body absorbs from the veggies you eat with it.

I forgot one reason that avocados are like Julia Hale Fitness. They are fancy when they want to be. Want to take your guacamole up a notch? Here’s how to top your avocado for a bit more wow:

  • crumbled feta and pickled onions
  • pickled jalapeno and crispy bacon
  • grilled corn and black beans
  • fresh mango and red onion
  • pork carnitas (I know)

as one of those who have asked you to make it, i can vouch for this recipe. But you forgot to mention that it is particularly good with a locally brewed ipa.
