20 Minute Total Body Workouts

There are some days that you either a) don’t have much time to spend at the gym or b) can’t mentally prepare yourself for a lengthy workout. We in the fitness industry call that normal.

When you want/have to be in and out of the gym in 30 minutes, you can still get a great workout. In fact, use that time crunch as a motivator. Find yourself some empty space and a couple of dumbbells and race that clock. You’ll get max calorie burn and build some muscle at the same time.

I’ve been really into timed workouts lately. I found myself getting bored with my same old routine so I’ve been throwing some Cross Fitty strategies into my routine: as many rounds as possible in a certain time, 20 reps as fast as possible, that sort of thing. I love it because I can walk into the gym, get a better workout than most of the people spending 1 1/2 hours there, and leave in no time.

Neither of these workouts aren’t your typical 3 sets of 10 workouts. These workouts are designed to give you maximum calorie-burn in a short amount of time. Get ready. Both of these workouts are fast-paced with very little time for rest.

*With just 1 set of dumbbells, both of these workouts can be done entirely at home!

Total Body 10: every movement flows into the next, allowing you to transition from exercise to exercise with very little up and down and over and under. My advice: write the entire workout on a white board or piece of paper and hang it where you can easily see it. Don’t try to memorize the exercises – keep the list in plain site. Focus on doing the best you can for just 10 reps and forget about. Get low in your squat, keep your plank tight, squeeze your core on the lying leg raises.

30 Second Circuits: you don’t even have to count during these circuits. Download a simple interval timer onto your phone, set it to 30 second intervals and get it in gear.
